Just Hanging Around

Not much new going on here - which is probably a good thing! Caitlyn is learning to assert herself quite loudly now; she doesn't cry, she yells. If you don't figure out what she wants in a timely manner, she makes sure to express her displeasure at great length, right to your face. It's kind of cute, actually... I suppose it won't be so cute eventually. She is learning to sit up herself, which makes diaper changing an adventure, but she hates spending time on her belly, so I don't know how she'll learn to crawl! Television is becoming more interesting to her, too - we'll have to be careful what's on the family TV from now on. She loves watching TV with her big brother:

A Few Health Questions and Answers

Just thought I'd throw in a quick post with some very helpful health Q&A I've come across. It just may change your life - I know it did for me :o)

Q: I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!!...Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around themiddle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!
Enjoy life, friends and loved ones - stay healthy :o)

The Great Hunter has Returned!

So, they made it home safely, and with lots of bottled moose. The sausages, roasts and steaks will have to wait 'til next week, when the butcher in Burin is finished with the meat. They all had fun, and seem to have gotten the urge to shoot out of their systems for now. See how happy they are?

Hail the Great Hunters!

Jamie had to get an emergency hair cut today - Cadets are up and running again for the year. His hair is so easy to take care of when he's in cadets... don't even have to comb it! Looks nice, too, in my opinion. I don't think Eric would do well in cadets at all...

One Hairy Eric

Well, gotta go... I downloaded a trial version of Painter Essentials last night, and it needs to be played with. It can turn regular photos into works of art (meaning they look like they have been hand painted). Lots of fun!

Look at my brain!

My Brain is 80% Female, 20% Male

My brain leans female
I think with my heart, not my head
Sweet and considerate, I am a giver
But I'm tough enough not to let anyone take advantage of me!

What colour-theme should my blog use?

tans and beiges

reds
pinks
yellows
purples

Anyway, Todd called last night. They have got their moose, and will be heading over to his Dad's place to clean it and cut it up (yuck). Hopefully he'll be home in another day or so. He says he took lots of photos - anyone want to see chopped up dead animal? Not me!! Maybe once we have a nice roast with vegetables and gravy, I will take a picture to show you.

Uh oh - Caitlyn is stirring. Time for me to go again. A Mom's work is never done, you know.

Got to get me moose, b'y

Todd is off to the great Northern Peninsula with his Dad and brother-in-law, for a few days of moose hunting. He was so excited last night, it was like watching a little kid getting ready for a party! He'll only be gone a few days, but he took enough gear to start a small town... well, a small outpost, anyway. He's not the greatest hunter in the world, but he heard there's lots of moose up north... hopefully they'll find a spot like this:

Surely he'd be able to hit at least one?! *Tee hee hee* I hope he does get something, though - I actually like moose meat. Mmmmmmm - moose sausages, bottled moose, roast moose, moose stew, moose steaks.... ~drool~

While he's gone, I think I'll run out to Pier 1 and buy as many tacky nick-nacks as I can, as a welcome home gift for him *mwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaa* I need to hit Winners and Costco too. I just love shopping!

Another year begun...

Well, I have a few minutes to myself, so here I am! The boys are in school, and Todd has taken Caitlyn to her appointment to get her 2nd set of needles. I took her last time, and I almost couldn't bear it when she cried - that was the first time I had really heard her cry from pain. Horrible! So, I made Todd take her today. I may have to console both of them when they get back.

Anyway, first full week of school is almost over, and things seem to be going well. Eric and Travis are both pretty happy with their courses. High school here is loosely organized like university; students have to pick 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year courses from a whole catalogue of choices, so their course load is pretty much custom made (aside from the basic required ones, like English, Math, etc.). Eric wanted to take a 3rd year music course, but there weren't enough students, so it was cancelled; he chose business and some kind of career development thing instead, so that might be interesting. Travis' favorite pick so far is an introductory law course... like he needs instruction in arguing!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha haaaaaa......

Jamie has the same homeroom teacher he had last year, so he'll have a hard time convincing her he should be sent home 'cause he's sick - she has caught on to his cute, eyelash-batting tricks! She seems to be a good teacher, though - easy to get in touch with, and she likes Jamie, so she keeps an interest in what he's doing. Our goal this year is to get through every single week without missing one day of school. He already tried to skip off today, claiming a sore throat, but I girded my loins, and forced him out the door anyway. Hopefully the school will not be calling by lunch time for me to go get him!

I am slowly making my way through all the boxes I packed last winter, finding my stuff and getting this house all home-y. Todd's not a big fan of nick nacks, but I am showing him the error of his ways. His cousin was over not too long ago, and said it wasn't hard to see Todd was living with a woman - he has finally evolved from "early bachelor pad" decorating! Believe it or not, one year, Todd and Travis had decorated their Christmas tree with beer bottles and plastic ornaments from a vodka company. ~sigh~ Yep, they needed me!

I'll leave you with a pic taken last month, in a hotel room in Ottawa. Behold the mighty baby girl who stands with only the slightest assistance from a big brother!

This'n'that

Not a whole lot going on, other than laundry. For some reason, it doesn't matter how many times I fill the washer, I still have more to go. It will never end, I fear! Just when I thought I was nearing the end of the pile, I opened the closet door of the laundry room, and found Travis' secret stash of dirty clothes; apparently he stuffed them there while cleaning his room. *aaaaaargh*

Well, boys will be going back to school on Wednesday. None of them are actually ready... we haven't bought a darn thing :o) Eric and Travis are going into grade 11 and Jamie is starting grade 8. How come everyone is getting older but me? By the way, Jamie now wishes to be addressed as James or Jimmy from now on. I know right now that I will not be able to remember that... he will always be my l'il Jamie :o)

Heard the news about the Crocodile Hunter - I feel for his wife and kids. After all the risks he's taken, it really seems unfair that a stingray would be his undoing. I think if I were her, I would not want to be hearing "oh well, he died doing what he loved"... he shouldn't have died at all. I can't even imagine how hard it would be for someone to have to deal with this in the public eye, either. It's all just so sad.

I better show a photo to make us feel better. Here's Caitlyn and Jamie, admiring each other:
